Day 5 – Iceland Overlanding

Poured with rain all night but tent stayed warm and dry and we were lulled to sleep by the nearby stream. We wake at 6.15am to find large pools of standing water all around us. Last to put our tents down again but sharper with claiming our seats on the bus we are growing wiser Tripytaka.

Today, we continue around the dramatic Westfjords coastline on a 400km drive. We stop for lunch in Holmavik, a small village famous for it’s Witchcraft Museum. It’s a grey damp day and we dodge the rain showers as we walk around town.

We end the day camping in Hunavellir. It’s howling a gale and after pitching in to get the Mess tent up we try and find a sheltered spot to pitch our tent. We consider renting a room for the night as a number of our group do but we’re keen to try and dry our tent out after last night’s soaking. It pours with rain and we manage to get the tent up speedily and retire to the bar for the evening with dinner as the Mess tent is in danger of being blown away.
