Day 7 – Overlanding Iceland

Another 8am departure after a good nights sleep. Raining again as we pack up but we’re getting used to this. Big day today, not in terms of driving distances but just in terms of the sheer number of sights we need to cover.

First stop is the impressive Godafoss waterfall. It’s freezing and pouring with rain that just seems to make it all the more dramatic.

We continue our journey to Lake Myvatn and stop at the Skutustadagigar craters, lava pillars at Hofdi, Dimmuborgir lava fields and speed climb the Hverfjall volcano crater after an excellent fish & chip lunch.

We spend 3 hours at the Myvatn hot pools and it’s absolutely glorious to sit and socialise with a drink followed by a great shower and hair wash.

We swiftly get the cook tent set up and our own tents and end the day camping close to the shores of Lake Myvatn. It’s raining and cold. Our tent stays dry and our sleeping bags are snuggly. Thank goodness we have tough kit.
