In 2019 we embarked on our 1st African overland trip that commenced at Victoria Falls and saw us visiting Botswana, Namibia and South Africa over a period of 6 weeks. We got a taste for this beautiful continent, the people, landscape, the diversity of wildlife and vowed one day to return. Life has been very good to us and we now have the opportunity to return a lot sooner than we expected.
This time we’re about to embark on a 7 week overland trip. We will again start at Vic Falls, this time for a 3 week truck adventure that will see us travelling through Zimbabwe, into South Africa, Mozambique, Eswatini (Swaziland) and back into South Africa where the truck adventure ends in Jo’Burg. We will of course as anyone who follows my blog regularly, be camping for this section of the trip!!
We’ll then spend a night in Jo’Burg to shower off the road dust and get some all important laundry done before collecting a hire car and venturing off to explore the Drakensberg Mountains and the battlefields of the KwaZulu-Natal region. We’ll drop the hire car off in Richards Bay and from here go and stay with my cousin Neil and his Husband Bruce, at one of their beautiful beautiful lodges in Sodwana Bay. They’ll be some beach time, hopefully snorkelling, poker nights and plenty of wise water. Next stop will be the Thanda Safari Private Game Reserve with the boys and a final road trip together that will see us relaxing at a beachfront hotel in Durban.
We’ve had our Hep B booster jab, a course of Typhoid tablets – one less needle thank goodness – are in possession of our malaria tablets and our visas for Mozambique. Our North Face duffles are packed and awaiting collection by Airportr who’ll take them to Heathrow whilst we take the Elizabeth Line across town.
It’s a big adventure, one that we’re looking forward to with a mixture of excitement and nervous anticipation. I’ll be updating the blog regularly whilst we’re on the road if you’d like to follow our latest adventure.
Wish us luck.
