Boracay

After a restful night’s sleep we go for an early breakfast and a walk on the beach and oh my word it’s absolutely beautiful. 4kms of continuous white sand.

We’re due to go out on a boat for a snorkelling trip today but due to a mix up it’s been changed to tomorrow and we find ourselves with a free day ahead. The clouds part, the sun starts to shine and we have some blue sky, yay!

Its absolutely gorgeous here and we spend the morning swimming in the most wonderfully warm turquoise sea and sunbathing by the hotel pool. We drop a pile of laundry off at a nearby laundry service and go for a wander followed by a  late Japanese lunch – there’s so many restaurants to choose from. I get a pedicure  for £4.50 and we collect our laundry.

We go for sundowners and watch the sun go down on the balcony of a restaurant where we decide to eat dinner. It’s very busy in Boracay but there’s  a really good atmosphere on the island and it doesn’t feel too over crowded.

Its been a great day and we’re absolutely loving life here. We’re rather merry by the time we walk home so we’ll sleep like logs.

We wake ready for our snorkelling trip and after breakfast we walk out to our boat for a morning of snorkelling. We’re scheduled to have 3 stops and at our first stop within 5 minutes of sticking our heads in the water I spot a Banded Sea Krait – aka sea snake one of the most poisonous on the planet. If its possible to break into a cold sweat whilst snorkelling in a tropical sea then that happens the second I spot it. However, I’m far enough away not to disturb it and intrigued to follow it which is exactly what I do until it disappears under a rock.

We spend a nice morning sticking our heads in the water. There’s a reasonable variety of fish but the coral is not brilliant and has suffered from boat anchors and too much human interference. Always sad to see dead coral especially when it takes so long to grow in the first place.

We spend the afternoon walking on the beach and splashing in the sea it’s just fab here but all good things sadly must come to an end. After dinner we return to our hotel to pack as guess what we’re on the move again in the morning.
