El Nido to Puerta Princessa

We leave at 8am this morning as we’re on the move again, we have a 5 hour drive to Puerta Princessa through villages and lush green countryside.

The first 4 hours are all fine, but in the final hour our van develops a puncture and the driver needs to replace it. He advises that it will take 10 minutes or so to replace by the side of the road and that we should remain in the van. We decline this offer – not sure the jack would be able to bear our combined weights – and find some shade at the roadside whilst communing with the local goats.

We reach our hotel and leave our bags as our room isn’t ready. Literally next door to our hotel is a shopping mall and we go off in search of trekking shoes for Brownie – we have a very exciting hike looming on the horizon. We both also need a bikini and a rash vest. It’s strange visiting a department store whilst we’re travelling but this one, Robinsons has everything we need and at reduced prices in their pre-Christmas sale.

We return to our hotel and locate our room and dump.our bags and our purchases. We adjourn to the rooftop pool for a swim and a snooze. The barman informs us that it’s 2 4 1 on cocktails so we’re more than happy to participate.

We have a pizza next door and return to our hotel.in readiness for our Underground River trip tomorrow.
