After an exhilarating 2 days flying through the trees we return to the Gibbon Experience offices to collect our bags. We jump in a Tuk Tuk bound for the Laos Thai Friendship bridge border.

We go straight to the immigration booth on the Laos side, it’s very quiet and there’s no queue. Exit stamp drys in our passport and we buy a ticket for the bus that will take us across the bridge to the entry point for Thailand. We reflect on just how brilliant its been in Laos – sleepy Vientiane, efficient Laos China train, glittering temples, humility of daily alms giving in Luang Prabang, vitality and importance of the Mekong and the tranquility of the trees in the Nam Kam National Park. We loved the laid back chilled vibe and small number of tourists in Laos a real contrast to the frenetic energy of the Philippines. We’re now ready for the contrasting high energy, faster paced, tourist packed atmosphere of Thailand
We cross the bridge and reach the Thai border post. Again its not busy and after fingerprints and a photo a Thai 60 day entry stamp is placed in our passports and we’re in. We hire a Tuk Tuk to take us to our hotel on the otherside of the Mekong. Its taken 2 hours door to door brilliant.

We dump our bags in our room and as we pause for breath we realise that it’s Christmas Eve. We adjourn to the hotel’s restaurant for dinner and extremely generous Rum and cokes and toast both a wonderful time in Laos and a Happy Christmas ahead.
